The Dalton Nuclear Institute was established in 2005 as a leading national centre for nuclear research and education. The Institute has established a broad range of education programmes, nuclear research capabilities, and over fifteen strategic partnerships with industry and academia.

The Dalton Nuclear Institute is building new research facilities and is partnered with Serco and the Battelle Memorial Institute as the SBM management consortium of the UK’s National Nuclear laboratory.

As illustrated by the following charts, nuclear research income has increased by a factor of five; nuclear research publications have increased by 60%; and the University has the highest impact of nuclear publications globally. During 2010/11 over 400 people were engaged in nuclear research and high learning across the University.
