The Dalton CPD Centre is able to design short courses to your specific business needs covering the nuclear landscape, governance, policy, supply chain and materials. For 2011 we are offering two new open courses.
- 22-24 March, 2011: EXENUC-UK – nuclear leadership and governance for senior managers facing nuclear industry change.
- 17 April, 2011: An Introduction to Nuclear Energy.

EXENUC-UK
Course Director: Professor Peter Storey. Former Director of Nuclear Safety Research of HSE's Nuclear Directorate. Currently Professor of Nuclear Policy and Regulation & Director Nuclear CPD Centre at the Dalton Nuclear Institute.
A new short-course developed in collaboration with Manchester Business School, Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and the International Nuclear Academy, EXENUC-UK has been designed to increase the awareness and understanding of the key issues that face senior managers in the nuclear industry today.
Our experienced tutors will help those operating, or planning to operate, in the UK nuclear industry understand the key factors behind successful operation in an accessible short course. Lectures and group activities will focus on the interrelation between critical elements such as finance, risk, and nuclear good practice. Participants will learn about the context of the technology, lessons learnt from the past and essential nuclear requirements such as safety, security, waste management and concern for the environment.

An Introduction to Nuclear Energy
Course Director: Dr John Roberts, Nuclear Fellow & External Liaison Manager at the Dalton Nuclear Institute.
A new one-day course intended to give an essential overview of the nuclear energy for those with little or no previous knowledge of the sector. This course is particularly suited to employees of companies thinking about entering the nuclear supply chain and wanting to gain a greater appreciation of the UK nuclear industry history and present status, the concepts behind nuclear energy including details on nuclear fission and the nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning in the UK and the management of radioactive waste, and the roles and responsibilities of different nuclear organisations.
John Roberts has a passion for communicating nuclear science, technology and engineering. He is active within the Institute of Physics as a member of the Nuclear Industry Group Committee, as well as the Nuclear Institute where he is a member of the Education and Training Committee and Secretary of the nuclear academic-industry liaison group. He is also the driving force behind www.nuclearliaison.com and one of the partners of www.nltv.co.uk. He is a very experienced speaker with invited presentations and lectures around the world.
