Policy engagement

Led by Director Professor Francis Livens, our Dalton Nuclear Policy Group includes senior thought leaders with extensive and varied experience across the UK's nuclear sector.

The Group takes an objective, evidence-based and independent view of policy making in relation to the nuclear and wider energy sectors, in the context of the UK Government's commitment to the achievement of Net Zero by 2050, coupled with considerations of energy security, affordability and the broader interactions between energy markets and society.

In developing its advice and recommendations, the Group works closely with others across the University and - where appropriate - engages with colleagues elsewhere in academia, industry and Government to complement the insight and experience which exists within the Group itself.

The Group’s output is intended to be both novel and impactful, offering advice and recommendation to policy-makers and other stakeholders, founded on impartial and evidence-based analysis.

Watch: Impact on policy

The Dalton Nuclear Policy Group’s Professor Adrian Bull and Government’s Chris Heffer, Director for Nuclear Power and Decommissioning at the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, discuss why our advice is so impactful.
